nonviolence possible because: Women are socialized to be less violent than men therefore the likelihood of violent conflict is much less. Women have been the caretakers of family and society throughout history. Women are more collaborative than men. If women ruled the world, life would be different. Isn’t that what the world is looking for now, something different? Women want power with, not power over, therefore there is no threat of violence or the taking of a life. There is a threat to power.
oppression, the strength of unity will empower and initiate paradigm change. When women are empowered, there will be peace! A Call to Women is about changing the world. If it is a peaceful change, then everyone will benefit in the long run. A Call to Women is about EDUCATING and Socializing the Children. UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan wrote, “Women, who know the price of conflict so well, are also often better equipped than men to prevent or resolve it. For generations, women have served as peace educators, both in their families and in their societies. They have proved instrumental in building bridges rather than walls. They have been crucial in preserving social order when communities have collapsed.” An extract from the writings of Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Baha’i Faith, in a book entitled Women, states about women, “…when they form a conscious and overwhelming mass of public opinion against war there can be no war.” Women have an advantage... If a woman comes up to a man and hits him, What would a man do? Would he hit back? Would he hurt her? What if the woman just stops him from doing what he’s doing? Will men kill women? Yes, but the chances are, not as likely, except with extremists? Would men kill men? Would women kill? Why Women? A woman may not have as strong an inclination to go to war as a man. A woman may have more compassion and trust. A woman may make better decisions for children. Women are the caretakers of families and society. It is a different way of finding a solution. Women are more collaborative Why women? Not to say women have all the answers, or are morally superior, but what is plausible is if women are the peacemakers, it can be DIFFERENT. The logic of this argument is hard to dispute. The Bush administration is using techniques that are similar. They are appealing to human emotion and patriotism, logical tools that are hard to dispute. Logic vs. logic would be a strong strategy by women and the Peace movement. Why women? Because: Women want UNITY & PARTNERSHIP, not Dominance and Separation, according to Louise Diamond, in the Peace Book Because: Women are Proud of our differences and Respectful of others Because: Women want to find a Humane way for a better world Because: Women will communicate Why women? Because they are women? Because they are better than men? Because they have all the answers? No, Because they are spiritual. Spiritual is philosophical. Philosophical is political. Plato taught, according to Thomas Merton in Ghandi and the One Eyed Giant , “To philosophize and concern oneself with politics is one and the same thing.” Women would be empowered around the world. The window of opportunity has opened at this time in history for women to take the lead in the quest for Peace. Is it a type of revolution? Yes. Women, challenge other women, on both sides of the political spectrum, Republican or Democrat, hawks or doves, once and for all, to take a stand for all women, then challenge the men. Women can set an example for the direction of the world! There is evidence of change, but nowhere near enough! Here is a beginning: The U.N. passed Resolution 1325 stressing women should be part of all conflict prevention and resolution, before, during and after the conflict. Resolution 1325 Adopted by the Security Council at its 4213th meeting, on 31 October 2000 Reaffirming the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in peace-building, and stressing the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security, and the need to increase their role in decision-making with regard to conflict prevention and resolution. A UN report in 2006 says women are losing ground. Where does it go from here? The women become an army of peacekeepers, messengers. The stage has been set. The world needs women, now! Quotes Sister Joan Chittister, author, lecturer, founder of Benetvision, Co-Chair of Global Peace Initiative of Women, Co-Chair of Tikkun, at the Omega/VDay Conference, Sheraton Manhattan, NYC, NY, September 11, 2004, a conference of 1,400 women, with about 10 men, gave an amazing speech about why women should be in the forefront. She said, “It’ s time for women to reach across the borders that men will not breach, to take the hands of the other, not to bind them, but to bond them. It’s time for women’s analysis of world situations and women’s solutions to conflict to be heard.” Sister Joan Chittister, September 11th, 2004, at the Omega / V Day conference, “Women and Power” said, “The lives of our children, the protection of millions, the hopes of all humankind, wait again now for women, from opposite cultures, opposite tradition, to step over the line of political hatred to save them.” Sister Joan Chittister Speech Paraphrase – Read the Paraphrase, by Andre Sheldon Two women – the Pharaoh’s family – The Moses story Sister Joan said, “The presence of the women in the Moses story, its empowering cooperation of Moses’ mother and Pharaohs’ daughter was an antidote to extremism then, was the beginning of community then, was the seed of another newer nurturing world that was needed then, and its even more needed now!” Bahai To the Peoples of the World - A Statement on Peace By the Universal House of Justice Page 8 2nd para “The emancipation of women, the achievement of full equality between the sexes, is one of the most important, though less acknowledged prerequisites of peace.” See If Women Ruled the World http://www.ifwomenruledtheworld.com/about.htm “…women are still no more than a token presence in the upper echelons of real power and in the corporate boardrooms and political establishment, the technology gender gap if anything has been widening, and the average wages for women still haven't exceeded $. 75 for every dollar earned by a man.” See Quotes by Women See Quotes by Men See Quotes See Support for Women by Patricia Melton Smith See The Daily Power of Women in Peace Building, by Patricia Melton Smith http://www.peacexpeace.org/about/documents/DailyPowerofWomen.pdf Women obtain strength and power, not to Rule, but to Lead!!
